The Wicked Flee When No Man Pursueth- Part 2

My second story is also one of many examples of how Proverbs 28:1 applies to modern society.

Like the first one, this one is also a true story. I have many stories which contain the same morals, which I may share later, but these two stories are text book examples for illustrative purposes, when it comes to justice.

This second story doesn't contain any humorous twist like the first one did, but it carries the same message about irony, crime and punishment.

This story began When I answered a call to an armed robbery at a small local country store. The weapon involved was a tire tool. Upon my arrival, I found the store owner semi-conscious with a large gaping split all the way across the top of his head, definitely a life threatening wound. I observed a large puddle of blood and a tire tool laying beside it. The victim had managed to gain consciousness and call for help.

The victim was able to provide with me a description of the incident. 5 young men had entered his store, and under the pretense of wanting an item half way across the store, lured the victim away from his cash register and unknowing to them, his gun which was also behind the counter. Once the robbers had the victim at an advantageous location for them, one of them struck him across the head with a tire tool which had been concealed behind the perpetrators back. The young robbers then took a small amount of cash and fled from the scene, as far as they knew, leaving the victim for what they thought was dead.

The victim was able to give me basic descriptions, and thought that he knew one of the young men who lived several miles down the road, however he had no vehicle description or other information. I broadcast what information I had out on the radio, and stayed with the victim until an ambulance could arrive.

During this time though the robbers were traveling the back roads at a high speed, again while nobody was chasing them. Why were they running so fast? Nobody was in pursuit of them. They were running from some imaginary pursuer who didn't exist at this point in time. This action is what ironically lead to their apprehension, because they zoomed past an Officer several miles from the scene who took notice of their speed and fell in behind them. This caused the robbers to put the pedal all the way down to the floor, resulting in a chase. The Officer was able to keep the robbers vehicle in sight until they turned into a nearby mobile home park. All 5 of the young men bailed out of the car and ran in different directions. with the help of some citizens and about 15 other Police Officers, all 5 of the robbers were rounded up from their hidden locations.

All 5 of them were terrified. They never counted on being identified. As far as they knew they had left the victim dead. One of the young men later described their fear after leaving the scene. They thought that the Police were everywhere. Every car they met during their get away looked like a Police car to them. They even met a Public Utilities truck with a yellow emergency light on top of the trucks cab, and thought that it was after them. One of them even swore that he heard a siren in the middle of nowhere, and thought it was the Public Utilities truck chasing them. They were seeing imaginary Police, and hearing imaginary sirens that didn't exist. Again another example of fleeing when no man pursueth, leading to justice.

The victim in this case also learned a valuable lesson. When something doesn't feel right, it's probably not right, and having a gun where you can't get to it doesn't help you.
