There is a lot of talk nowadays about a potential Convention of the States being the answer to an out of control, lawless Federal Government. I was also one of those thinking the same thing until not long ago when I read an article which made a lot of sense after I read it. To paraphrase a few of the points the author made was this: Why do we need a Convention of the States when we already have a Constitution which is close to perfect? Why mess with it? The problem is not the Constitution, the problem is that it is being ignored by all three branches of government. It means nothing when there is no enforcement, no checks and balances to keep everyone honest. They have all gone rogue. What makes anyone think that a new revised edition of the Constitution would be any better, after all like the present one, it would only be as good as the Officials who administer it? That is the problem. There is nothing wrong with the language in our Constitution. The problem lies within the ones charged with enforcing it.
A Dangerous Risk !
Here is why: The whole notion of a new amended Constitution is contingent upon a majority of States all getting together and sending a bunch of Patriotic Conservatives to redo the Constitution, ousting a lot of federalism and America gets back to her grand old self, and everybody's happy.
A Dangerous Assumption!
Remember that any changes made to the current Constitution are legal and permanent. What if some liberal Delegates pretend to be conservatives, and are sent to the Convention and turn coat. Even more possible, so-called conservatives are sent and are either bought off, or become traitor's like the members of our current Congress?
What about Radical Changes?
The two most important amendments are the first and the second, because without those two, the rest are meaningless. These are the two which the rest of the Constitution hinges upon. Take away these two, and the rest of the Constitution falls apart and we have official tyranny. This could happen as a result of a Constitutional Convention, and it would be legal and binding. We would no longer have the law on our side.
Why Is It Such A Risk?
Just where are the good guy's wearing white hats to serve as delegates going to come from? If they are so great, where have they been? We are being betrayed from every aspect of our lives now from local governments, states, and federal in all three branches of government. What makes us believe some unknown Delegates would be any different? At least for right now, we still have the law on our side, even if there's no one to enforce it.
What Is The Solution?
Before I offer a solution, we must understand the problem. We do not have a constitutional problem. We have a moral and cultural problem. Take a historical look at what caused ancient empires to fall?
They fell from the inside out. Don't put our trust in Politicians, instead turn to God and start in our own communities and take back our country one community at a time. This will require extraordinary leadership. Are we up to task?
